iPad gets lukewarm CNET reviews; Donnie Simpson signs off the air; J.D. Salinger dies at 91; Mass Effect 2's 'romance guide'

Your day according to Google: The gods at CNET have spoken about the iPad, and the verdict is that Apple's much ballyhooed e-reader is somewhat disappointing, but it doesn't entirely suck. The software Web site suggests the first version is more like a concept car than something you'd really drive to the office and suggests waiting for future iterations with more features at a lower price.

Donnie Simpson, the radio personality who has provided a soundtrack for our nation's politicians since 1978 as they went to work in Washington D.C., left his morning show at WPGC, American literary icon J.D. Salinger died at age 91, and Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks was photographed in a limo without his shirt (hey, it's a slow week for scandals now that Greg Oden left nothing more to the imagination and the Tiger Woods sex rehab photos have shown to be fake).

Honda is recalling more than 600,000 Fit Cars as being unfit for safe travel due to the chance that they could catch fire if it rains, leaving Americans with little choice in foreign auto purchases outside Kias and Hyundais. Venus and Serena Williams won their 11th Grand Slam title by winning the women's doubles finals at the Australian Open, Russia unveiled its latest super-secret stealth fighter plane, the Sukhoi T-50, meant to compete with the U.S. F-22.

Wired. com published a "romance guide" to Mass Effect 2 with tips on how to get your character laid in the popular video game.
